2008 INDIANA BLUE STAR SALUTE

Clarian West Medical Center is proud to support the Indiana Blue Star Celebration on Saturday, May 17. The event, which started in our hometown, Avon, in 2006, grew to a Hendricks County-wide event in 2007 and this year is expected to draw thousands of people from across the Hoosier state. Clarian West provides the highest quality of care and unsurpassed service to the people of West Central Indiana, from emergency to obstetrics, surgery to rehab, Clarian West offers comprehensive care for the whole family in a remarkable healing sanctuary environment. It is an honor to serve our community, and an honor to help recognize those who serve our country.

The American Legion is planning one of the largest Armed Forces Day celebrations in the country this year. Currently active military servicepersons and their families from all over Indiana, along with the general public, are invited to attend the event at O’Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis.

You need a newer version of Flash to watch this movie.

“It’s not your father’s American Legion anymore”

The American Legacy Scholarship Fund

The American Legacy Scholarship Fund is a college tuition ‘gap’ fund for dependents of service persons who have died in service since 9/11.
Since the federal benefit for college tuition caps at less than $27k, and a full education is much more than that, The American Legion created this national campaign to fill the gap, and absorbs administrative costs so that 100% of donations go to the Fund. The Legion is currently about halfway to the goal of $20mm.
The Basics

• Please join us as we show our support for the families of our men and women in uniform. These families sacrifice every day to support their husbands, wives parents and children who serve in the War on Terror. We owe them our unconditional support. This is your opportunity to show YOUR appreciation.

• With gates open at 1 p.m., a brief opening ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. with the arrival of more than 1,000 motorcyclists completing the ‘Ride for the Salute’, a tour through Hendricks County which raises donations for
The American Legacy Scholarship Fund. U.S. and Indiana colors will arrive via skydivers, and a brief flag ceremony and invocation will be held, after which ORP will resume its nominal racing schedule.

• The main ceremony will be at 5 p.m., during which comments from dignitaries and various entertainments will be offered in appreciation of Indiana’s military families. Robert Spanogle, National Adjutant of The American Legion will be the keynote speaker. Each military family will receive a Blue Star Banner for display in their homes to show their communities that they have a family member in service.

• Various military equipment will be on display, including Blackhawk and Apache helicopters, artillery pieces, military training equipment, and other non-military exhibits. Dove Flight and Lifeline helicopters will base operations from ORP during the event. Lots of entertainment for kids will be on hand, including inflatables and a rock-climbing wall. Indianapolis Colts Cheerleaders and mascots will also be on hand.

• Military families are asked to register at www.hcbluestar.org as soon as possible. Persons interested in the ‘Ride for the Salute’ may obtain more information at the same website.

Guest appearances by Blue from the Indianapolis Colts, Boomer and Bowser from the Indiana Pacers, Big-E-Foot from the Indiana Ice, and Rowdie from the Indianapolis Indians.

• Mascots will be accompanied by Indianapolis Colts Cheerleaders, Indiana PaceMates, and Indiana Ice Chill Girls to join the public in honoring our servicemen and women and the families which help them be so successful in protecting us.

• Indiana Blood Center will have 3 Bloodmobiles on site…. each donor will receive a free ticket to the Toyota Challenge Night Before the 500, May 24th. (Note: a portion of donations made to the Indiana Blood Center go to Iraq in direct support of medical field operations.)
